The Watch chain succulent, also known as 'Crassula lycopodioides', belongs to the family of Crassulaceae (succulent jade plants). The specific epithet "muscosa" is Latin for "mossy," which perfectly describes this plant's moss-like look. It grows in delicate, chain-like stems made up of tiny, tightly packed segments that resemble miniature pine branches or zipper-like strands.

Native to South Africa and Namibia, this Crassula muscosa is an absolute stunner, growing up to 16 inches tall with a spreading habit of branching stems tightly packed with narrow, light green leaves that completely hide the stems.

The stems of Crassula muscosa start upright, then gradually cascade as they fill out, creating a soft, trailing effect that adds movement and texture to any space.

Its tightly stacked, chain-like leaves give it a dense, almost mossy appearance that stands out without feeling bulky.

When it matures, it typically grows up to 12 inches tall, with stems that can spread and drape beautifully over time.

When it blooms in spring, it produces small, pale yellow to greenish flowers that grow along the stems, adding a subtle but charming detail.

As it grows, the Watch Chain works both as a vertical accent and a trailing feature. It adds height and structure when young, then naturally shifts into a gentle spiller, making it a great fit for hanging baskets, mixed succulent arrangements, or even rock gardens.

When and How to Water Your Watch Chain Succulent

Like many succulents, when it comes to crassula muscosa watch chain care, they prefer the "soak and dry" technique. This involves giving your watch chain succulents a generous watering, followed by allowing them to completely dry out before watering again.

Water your Watch Chain plant once every 7 to 10 days during the growing season with a thorough soak, then reduce watering to every 2 to 3 weeks during its slower, dormant period, keeping moisture light.

In the spring and summer, allow the soil to fully dry out before watering again. This soak and dry method helps prevent root rot and keeps the plant growing steadily.

In the fall and winter, it needs even less water. With cooler temperatures and reduced growth, light and infrequent watering is enough to keep it healthy.

Make sure that you are also using porous sandy soil, and make sure it is well-drained soil and is in a pot, then make sure there are drainage holes to avoid overwatering. In rainy seasons or cold weather, it's best to withhold watering your outdoor succulents.

Light Requirements - Where to Place Your Watch Chain Plant

When growing indoors, it thrives in bright, indirect light for about 4 to 6 hours a day.

Place your plant near a window that gets steady sunlight, such as a south facing or west facing window.

This gives it enough brightness without exposing it to harsh direct sun that can dry out or scorch the delicate stems.

When growing outdoors, it can handle more light and does well with around 6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily.

Gradually increase its exposure to morning and afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn from intense rays.

A spot with gentle morning sunlight and filtered shade later in the day works best, helping the plant maintain its dense, textured appearance without becoming leggy.

Avoid keeping it in low light for extended periods, as this can weaken its growth. During winter or in spaces with limited natural light, placing it outdoors occasionally can help keep it compact and healthy.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

The watch chain plant prefers a fast-draining soil that keeps moisture from lingering around the roots. You need to be extra cautious and need to use the right kind of soil with a pH of 5.6- 6.5. It is best to use a specialized succulent potting mix or well-draining soil that includes 5 natural substrates with organic mycorrhizae – perfect for promoting healthy roots and happy plants.

When it comes to fertilizing, it is best to use a natural fertilizer with an equal mixture of 5-10-5 (NPK) once a year during spring. It is the best choice as they last longer and keep your soil alive by adding other beneficial compounds and microbes to the soil mix. Keep it light, as too much fertilizer can cause weak, overly soft growth.

In fall and winter, you can skip fertilizing as the plant naturally slows down during this time, and does not require additional nutrients.

Hardiness Zones & More

In the United States, it is mostly grown as an indoor plant, but if you live in southern Florida or Hawaii, you can grow it outdoors in USDA zones 9-10.

It prefers a temperature range between 65°F and 85°F and should be kept at 50°F, as colder conditions can cause the stems to become weak, mushy, or discolored.

It does well in average indoor humidity levels and does not require any extra moisture.

It prefers a slightly dry environment, so avoid placing it in overly humid areas or near constantly damp conditions. With the right balance of warmth, stable temperatures, and moderate humidity, this plant stays compact, healthy, and easy to manage whether grown indoors or outdoors.

How to Grow as a Houseplant

Put your Watch Chain Plant indoors in bright, indirect light for 4 - 6 hours a day, where it can keep its compact, chain-like shape. It prefers warm temperatures between 18°F and 29°F and does well in normal indoor conditions without needing extra humidity.

Water only when the soil is completely dry, since it is sensitive to overwatering, and always use a well-draining succulent mix to keep the roots healthy. With the right balance of light, minimal watering, and good drainage, it stays neat, full, and easy to manage indoors.

Wildlife - Watch Chain Flowers Attract the Following Friendly Pollinators

The watch chain flowers attract a variety of friendly pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. These beautiful creatures play a crucial role in the pollination process, helping to ensure the continued growth and reproduction of these stunning flowers.

Bees
Hummingbirds
Lady Bugs

According to ASPCA, the Crassula muscosa lycopodioides is mildly toxic to both humans and pets if ingested in large amounts. However, it is safe to touch, which makes it a popular choice for indoor and outdoor decoration.

How to Propagate Your Watch Chain Succulent

To propagate your Watch Chain Succulent, you can do it by stem cuttings. Start by choosing a healthy stem and trimming a few inches using clean scissors. Let the cutting sit in a dry place for a day or two so the cut end can callus, which helps prevent rot once planted.

After that, place the cutting on top of a well-draining succulent soil mix. Water it only when the soil feels dry. Keep the cutting in bright, indirect light while it develops roots. When you see new growth, it means the roots have started forming. Continue normal succulent care by spacing out watering and keeping it in a bright spot.

Another excellent Anker product!
Size: 1pack, Color: Black, Size: 1pack, Color: Black
Light weight, compact enough to pack away for travel, and doesnt make my phone hot. I've never been much for wireless charging given its slow speed. However my phone likes to glitch when it fully dies, saying there's water in the charge port when there's no water or debris. Meaning it wont take a charge thru the type C port, thus a wireless charger became nessicary. I have 2 Anker battery packs and love them both, they're high quality, affordable, and versatile. This Anker 313 wireless charging stand is no exception to Anker's reputation for quality and durability. I've found myself using it far more than I thought I would! If you're looking for a solid stand with wireless charging this is a great choice!

These are very nice but limited life
Size: 1pack, Color: Black, Size: 1pack, Color: Black
I got a couple of these for my wife's iphone 8+. They really are great in all charging respects when fed with a high power supply. But be aware they probably will not have long life. It depends on how often you plug/unplug the charger cord, and how you manhandle the charger itself. What I hate about these is the use of the USB micro charging port. If Anker were to use a USB type C charging port -maybe the lifespan would be greater. But I doubt it. This is why a 5 star item becomes a 3 star. The problem with USB ports as a power connector is that most people are rather klutzy with this connector while plugged into the charger's port. The USB micro connector socket is a very flimsy structure and not suited to heavy use (many plug/unplug or move cycles). If you are clumsy with plugging in the cable, you bend the outer metal housing that both guides the connector in while plugging, and also holds fast the connector so the contacts mate and remain in contact. Same is true if you move the charger body...it flexes the power cord which in turn wobbles the connector. Another great way to mangle the connector is moving or dropping the charger's body while the cord is connected. Anything that wobbles the cord while connected tends to waller out the USB port and after enough slop, the charger can become inoperative. Once the geometry of the housing is compromised, the electrical power connection becomes flaky (intermittent) and then you have a charger that may or may not work. So then you have a phone without the expected recharge. For most people this forces them to discard and re-purchase the charger. Call it designed-in obsolescence (shortened lifespan). I have seen this across a wide range of electrical items. Anything that uses the USB mini or micro port as an electrical path for the sole purpose of energy transference will eventually fail. USB type A (large rectangular) is less affected by this due to the heavier, robust structure. For me, I repair these by simply installing a permanently connected power cord. Soldered directly to the charger's circuit board. This is not something most people can do, and it requires intrusive access to the charger. On this model there are no screws to gain access to the connector and PCB...the case is permanently glued together. If Anker wanted to provide a better solution, they would deploy these with a barrel connector/power pack, but they play this game with the consumer forcing them to buy a separate, high-power pack that must be USB. bleah! Update 10 July 2023 Anker was graceful in contacting me the day after submitting this review and offering a full refund. Admittedly, I wrote this, feeling a bit frustrated that the product failed, but surprised with Anker's response with a request they be given another chance. Very commendable in today's world. +1 star for their diligence. Re: Duly noted. I'm sorry to have reported my experience with this product but it is the truth. Thanks but no thanks for the refund offer. I hardwired a power cord to the charger and now it works without intermittent behavior thus sustaining its use. Another chance? Of course. I like the product (and Anker) but do not like the micro USB connector it uses. I may follow up with a secondary comment on the rapidity of your response. This was a generalized comment for the industry to consider. I only apologize that it was targeted solely at Anker. You are not alone. Many of your competitor's products use the same connector so the consumer has little choice but to accept the limitations -or choose a product that does NOT use the mini or micro USB connector. Good luck with that.

Anker is the only option for your charging needs
Size: 1pack, Color: Black
The Anker 313 charging stand is a simple, reliable wireless charger that works great for my everyday use with my iPhone 16 Pro, especially for overnight charging. It’s a straightforward iPhone-compatible stand that may not be the best for speed, but this actually makes it ideal for bedside use. One of the best features is that it charges through thicker cases. My phone has a fairly bulky case and it still charges without any issues. Its magnet isn't strong, but it will do the job. As I noted, charging speed is moderate rather than fast. So it won’t top up your battery quickly during the day, but that’s actually perfect for overnight use since it charges steadily without generating excessive heat concerns. The stand design is also convenient because you can keep the phone upright for notifications or Face ID, and it can even charge in landscape orientation if you want to watch videos while it’s docked. Overall, the Anker 313 is a great budget-friendly wireless charger that does exactly what it needs to do. It is dependable charging, good case compatibility, and a stable stand design. It’s not meant to be the fastest charger, but for a nightstand setup with an iPhone 16 Pro, it’s a practical and reliable option. You can't go wrong with this one.

it works and it hasn’t failed me!
Size: 1pack, Color: Black
i’ve had this phone charger for a year and it works well! it charges decently and even flashes a little blue blinking light when it’s not placed on properly so you know if it’s charging or not. i will say the speed at which is charges is average, so it’s not a super fast charger.

Awesome product will not disappoint
Size: 1pack, Color: Black
This is something like the 5th+ one of these Anker 313 Wireless Charger Stands that I’ve purchased. Why 5+? Because these are really great wireless charging devices. I have bought myself a few, bought them for my sons and even, bought my ex-husband one. I’ve yet to have one not work, they just keep on providing a great charging system and having the cell phone sitting up like it does in the charger is a bonus. While cell is charging, if a call or text comes in, you can see that without picking up your cell. Also, you can be charging your device while you’re using it since this charging device props up your cell. On a side note, I did have a problem just recently with my cell not charging while on the stand, *BUT I found out it was the *charging cable that I had purchased separately that was defective. I replaced the cable with a new one and the Anker 313 Wireless Charger (Stand) was immediately charging again. If you are thinking about buying this charger, I recommend that you do. You will not be disappointed in this charger…
